A cross between a pub and a dedicated sports bar, Big Bamboo is your best bet for catching any international sporting event in Shanghai. Littered with pool tables, dart boards, foosball tables and TV screens over two maze-like levels, Big Bamboo is a bustling hive of expat activity set to a soundtrack of 80s rock. From the drunks at the bar with their eyes trained fixedly on TV, to the ultra-serious pool players, to the groups of lively revelers gathered around a table, there’s a lot going on in here. There are six beers on tap including Tiger for ¥40 and Guinness for ¥70, as well as an extensive selection of bottled beer from around the world. An eclectic and extensive menu has a long list of Asian and Mexican meals as well as the more standard pizzas, pastas and burgers. Average prices are around ¥50-60 for a feed. The all day bacon and egg breakfasts are also a drawcard at ¥60. Big Bamboo is dominated by male foreigners in their 30s and 40s, but can be a fun place for all.
