Located just north of Suzhou Creek and the Bund and housed in a building dating from 1934, the Broadway Mansions Hotel has a touch of the old and grand to it. A recent (2007) renovation has any sense of antiquity that might have remained in the rooms, but an atmospheric lobby and British bar help to create some atmosphere. Hotel rooms are quite appealing and spacious and feature large bathrooms with a separate bath and shower. Guests at the Broadway Mansions Hotel have an option between rooms with either a city view (looking to the north) or a river view (looking south to the Bund and Huangpu River). Be warned that ‘deluxe city view’ (discounted rate of $110) rooms generally have no view at all – just an outlook onto the brick wall of the neighboring building. It’s best to spring for a river view room (rates around $125 for deluxe or $170 for executive) or one of the ‘executive city view’ rooms (discounted rate around $150), which are located on the 10th to 16th floors. Executive rooms include buffet breakfast and in-room internet, which are charged at ¥147 ($21) and ¥110 per day ($16) respectively if you book a deluxe room. The hotel has a fairly limited range of facilities considering its supposed four star classification, with a business center, conference rooms and a spa the only amenities of note, though the restaurants do offer lovely views. Overall, the Broadway Mansions Hotel is a bit over-priced for what it offers but does have some redeeming features.
