Probably Shanghai’s most famous jazz club, you can catch live music at Cotton Club every night from 9:30pm. This dark, intimate venue is one of the oldest jazz clubs in the city and by virtue of its authentic feel it remains one of the best. With a stage that brings patrons right up to the action, enough seating to supply the crowds on most nights, and a long bar along the side of the venue, Cotton Club has an effective design. If there’s anything to complain about with the interior it’s that the club is a bit too dark – depriving you the opportunity to take in what appears to be a very lush decor. Drinks start at ¥40 for draught beer, mixed drinks and spirits start at ¥45 and cocktails from ¥50. Cotton Club is a great place to chill out while listening to some fine jazz and blues courtesy of the house band or regular guest performers. And really it’s an essential place to check out on any visit to Shanghai.
