Controlled and wild in equal parts, seeing them live is an engaging, liberating experience. Moving smoothly from subtle psychedelic drones to cacophonies of noise, from meandering cyclical beats to unnerving silence, the musicianship and communication between the trio works wonders. With supports for Mogwai and Neu!, a live session for WFMU and releases on prestigious experimental label Blackest Rainbow under their belt, the band are back, promising all new jams.

-----------

BEN BUTLER & MOUSEPAD
(Loaf Records)

Joe Howe (Ben Butler & Mousepad) has been making music independently for several years now. While previous projects ‘Gay Against You’ and ‘Germlin’ have seen him experiment wildly with breakcore, punk, hardcore and pop, Ben Butler & Mousepad is his most impressive project yet: An intense flurry of styles – from fusion to funk, prog to skwee – all aimed for the dancefloor. While busy making his debut album for LOAF records, Joe has also found time to tour the USA with DEERHOOF, start a Skwee clubnight in Glasgow with Wavy Graves and continue work on series of 7”s, remixes and dj mixes.

-----------

MUSCLES OF JOY
(Optimo Music / Watts of Goodwill)

Muscles of Joy are one of Glasgow’s best-kept secrets – an instrument swapping, largely vocal-led all female ensemble. Evoking the similar liberal femininity found in bands such as The Slits, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Kleenex/Liliput and The Raincoats, the band’s musical aesthetic is loose, abstract and emotively driven. Earlier this year we were luckily enough to get a sneak peak of their upcoming mini LP: A glorious collection of accidental pop, freak-folk, post-punk and avante garde songs, each with their own magical identity.

-----------

BUTTON UP

Residents at The 78, Killer Kitsch, Mono and Buff Club (amongst others) bring us the finest selection of soul, funk, r’n’b, psychedelia, post-punk, tropicalia and world music in Glasgow.

-----------

DAVID BARBAROSSA

Kilmarnock’s disco legend spins an exotic leftfield selection of records ahead of his brand new night ‘Wild Combination’ at Nice N Sleazy. Besides running his own nights and filling in for Optimo from time to time, David has also shared stages with some true legends: James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), Todd Terje and Silver Apples, to name but a few.
