Much more like a hotel than a hostel, Jade International Youth Hostel features 102 rooms spread over multiple stories. There is a lot of dorm accommodation on offer here, however, with 72 beds spread across 15 dorm rooms. Dorms come with a television and lockers, but you have to supply your own lock. Otherwise you can use the self-service lockers in the lobby. A dorm bed costs ¥70 ($10) in an 8 bed room or ¥80 in a 4 bed room per night. Bathroom facilities should be sufficient with 10 showers for each floor. The private rooms are nice and clean and come with a television and phone. But without internet access or any extra features they are way overpriced at ¥300 per night (with bathroom) or ¥200 per night (shared bathroom). On the premises is a restaurant where you can have an (again overpriced) continental buffet breakfast for ¥25, and Chinese meals throughout the day. There is also an internet bar and a very large common room, perhaps too large to make it useful for meeting other travelers. The location is good – just east of the Forbidden City and walking distance to Tiananmen Square and Wangfujing Dajie. Service seems a bit ho-hum. Jade Hostel is worth considering for the dorm rooms.
