The area around Kursky train station in Moscow has long been neglected by the majority of developers. Thanks to this, the area between Baumanskaya and Kurskaya metro stations became one of the interesting places in the city. Many factories based here were converted into cool urban office spaces and exhibition galleries.
Kurskaya area hosts the famous VinZavod art centre – home to contemporary artists in Moscow, the place where you can find lots of cool underground parties and interesting exhibitions.
A little bit further from Baumanskaya metro the new Fabrika - Aktovy Zal center became the first true contemporary dance and cinema venue in Moscow.
The area behind Kursky train station also hosts interesting clubs, such as Ikra – the best venue for quality live music in Moscow.
Finally, many creative collectives created their offices in the area, such as the local design group _FIRMA and various FM stations.
Having said that, Kursky and Basmanny area is not yet the happening area. You still find lots of old, falling apart, residential buildings. Ironically, the area next to VinZavod is full of hookers in the night, lining up for the clients as it was a market.
There's lots of weird places, fancy buildings, art spaces, slums, and desolate areas and all this makes the area the most interesting in Moscow.
Unfortunately, the landlords have already felt this, so the house prices are on the rise, but it's still relatively affordable comparing to other central areas in Moscow.
