Lomonosov was born in a small village in Russia in 1711. Apparently when he was adolescent he walked all the way to St. Petersburg and enrolled into one of the most prestigious universities there. Lomonosov was an impressive person, studied physics, chemistry, metallurgy, history, art and made an invention in virtually every field imaginable. One of his most famous discoveries was the atmosphere of Venus. He was the first Russian scientist who was accepted in the academy of science in St. Petersburg (mostly German scientists were there at that time). He was the one who invented the theory of Russian language and developed the literature theory. The oldest and the most prestigious Russian university - the Moscow State University - was called in his name. Lomonosov died in 1765.
