Nicole Beutler (Munich, 1969) is a dancemaker, curator and performer living and working in Amsterdam since 1993. She studied Fine Arts at the Arts Academies of Münster and München, German Literature at the University of Münster and subsequently Dance and Choreography at the SNDO, Theaterschool in Amsterdam. Her work is situated on the threshold of dance, performance and visual arts, she focusses on the precise articulation of sense and experiences in form of performance projects, installations and books. Her performances are composed musically, and suffused with subtle humour. They are characterised by minimal stage sets and a focus on the performer as a human being. In all her work, she examines the function of dance in the context of performance and theatre. Her recent activities include the curating of the lecture series The Old Brand New (January-September 2009) and the performances: Lost is my quiet forever (2008), her remake of the classical ballet Les Sylphides (2007/2008), Enter Ghost (2006), The Sensation is Real (2007), the exact position of things (2005) and several species of small furry animals… (2003).
