A popular student club in the university district, Propaganda is a basic but enjoyable place to dance and make some new friends. Upstairs plays host to an uninspiring bar dotted with plants and dated, ugly couches which makes for a fairly depressing atmosphere. Downstairs is more vibrant. DJs play R&B and hip-pop while patrons writhe on the small dance floor. The artwork based on Chinese propaganda posters that adorns the walls creates a cool vibe, but otherwise it’s a fairly simplistic set-up with no lighting effects or super superb sound system to speak of. Quite a few couches, stools and tables surround the dance floor but you’ll still be lucky to find somewhere to sit. Drinks are very cheap – bottled beers are ¥20 to ¥25, while cocktails and spirits start at ¥20 and range up to ¥35. While nothing about Propaganda will wow you, it does boast a relaxed atmosphere, friendly clientele and has a reputation as a good pick-up spot.
