In his a2n keynote he demonstrated that in the current laws a model like Spotify is not possible. They'd have to pay $17 Bln per year just in license fees for all the music that would be streamed had they become popular (200 Mln users).
The law has to change to allow services like this work.
Spotify is something that gets frequently mentioned in conversations during the a2n. It seems like a lot of people really believe in their model and see it as a potentially viable one.
Both PopCuts and Spotify try to introduce an interesting business model for the music industry. However, a simple stats analysis on Compete.Com shows that Spotify is gaining much more traction than PopCuts (10 times more visitors, higher rates of growth as of 09/2009).
