This Franco-Austrian performance collective comprised of five men, have given dance academics a mouthful to chew. The Superamas, with their clear intention to be provacatuers particularly in the day and age of political correctness, have created works that raise questions of artistic authorship while using the mask of entertainment/spectacle to attack issues regarding the role of the spectator and their perceptions of 'high art'. More clever than most people want to believe, their process is heavily guided by research. They are almost overly self-aware of their punchy and simplistic facade, using this as a tool to 'sell' themselves as a product, hence the catchy name. Superamas are very much a product of post-contemporary dance, with their keen willingness to attack the conventions of the past to create a theatrical spectacle that deserves a deeper look in order to penetrate the glossy facade.
