This Irish pub seems to be the most popular hang-out for Chengdu’s expat community. It is also your best bet in Chengdu for catching sporting events, with a focus on football and rugby. The large interior is low on pub kitsch but features the fundamentals, such as good, solid furnishings, ample television screens and a small beer garden. The Shamrock sells only a disappointing two draught beers (Tiger for ¥30 and Guinness at ¥60) but boasts a more comprehensive range of bottled beers and a good selection of reasonably priced spirits (from ¥20) and cocktails (from ¥30). It’s not a bad place to grab a bite either, with the menu offering pizzas (from ¥50), burgers (from ¥25) and all-day breakfasts (from ¥20). The list of main courses is dominated by pastas (¥25) but there are also some steak options (¥70-120). The Shamrock also hosts regular events including a Wednesday night pool comp, a DJ night on Fridays and live music on Saturday nights.
