The hotel of St. Petersburg pedagogy university which used to be a cheap dormitory now turned into a standard 3-star hotel. The people are mainly exchange students from China and Korea and Russian travelers who don't want to pay much.
The main advantage of the hotel is a very central location (behind Kazansky cathedral) and quite low prices: around $60 for the low quality rooms and $85 for the higher quality rooms. The problem is that the hotel belongs to the government, so you can't have a guaranteed booking there in advance. Reservations might be accepted by fax, but should be confirmed 3 days prior to arrival.
